Things you shouldn't care so much about.
Dear Internet:

Birdo. is not. female.

Can everyone on the internet saying, "Birdo is pink and in love with Yoshi! CLEARLY SHE'S A GIRL," take a great big breath of reality and stop being so short-sighted.

kthxdie,
Rave.

Huh, I always just assumed Birdo was a girl, not because of the pink, but because of the bow. Like in old-school Disney you could pretty much only tell Minnie from Mickey most of the time by the bow, and in Rugrats you could only tell Lil from Phil by the bow. It just always seemed to be an animation rule. Then I never thought about it afterwards because, well, Birdo isn't Daisy. =D; And I don't go that deep into Nintendo fandom for accurate translations and whatnot.

*lol* But now that I have thought about it, if you factor in the Kyla Theory as well, then of course Birdo would have to be a guy! Also, awesome. =D

Nope. XD I played the originals and... yeah. Definitely male. Even if you factor in the eggs, well, Yoshi really is male, and he lays eggs at a rate of knots. It's a defense mechanism, not a reproductive trait.

It's just something that's cropped up a lot lately which I have been growing gradually more irate with. |D; And to have people use the bow/pink/ring/makeup/loves-Yoshi thing as a reason that Birdo MUST be female just infuriates me. How much pink are you wearing today, honeybunch? None? Well, then, obviously you are a man! *eyeroll*

And lol, yes, Kyla Theory wins all. XD I think I need to put that on an icon. Nintendo: Big Fat Gay Men in Hawaiian Shirts.

Again, not something I thought about, because like you said, Yoshi lays eggs.

And like I said, it's just an animation standard. Like the way only females are given eyelashes and lips, even though those are things males possess as well. Wait, are you pissed off with people like me who assumed female until they learnt better and then went 'oh yeah, cool, he's a guy', or people who are like 'NO, she's a GIRL' even after they know better? (Like Liam who still insists Samus is a boy, even after PROOF + 1 MILLION) Because I'm not sure whether to defend myself or not. =D; Also, I'm still convinced that Void is a woman, if that helps?

With a picture of dancing Redeads and Birdo underneath! X3

Yeah, I know - if I hadn't known, I'd have assumed the same. But there's a difference between saying, 'because of these things I assumed it was female,' and saying 'because of these things, she is female.'

No, no, I am not attacking you at all. XD; I'm just frustrated by people who think gender and sex are the same thing.

*keels over laughing* I'm sorry, I just had this mental image of four year old!Rave lecturing four year old!Wyrr who told her next door neighbour that she was a boy because she had short hair. It was pretty funny. I mean, also terribly embarrassing that I said something like that, even when I was four, but still, very funny.

Anyway, all of that aside, I definitely see your point. At least people are starting to come around on that sort of thing. Like, a couple of years ago Matt would always say things about how only girls wear pink/do this/do that and whatnot, and now he wears more pink than I do and wears prettier shoes than I do, and he doesn't define Male and Female as strictly as he used to.

XD Four year old Rave would not have lectured; four year old Rave would have bit. So really, not much has changed.
